Roosie (Roo See) is my nickname taken from my last name, Iarussi (eye uh roo see). I view the name “Roosie” Fitness as a way of honoring my dream by sticking to my word, going after what I have always wanted to do, following through, and doing it regardless of how scary or hard it gets. While this “gym” isn’t a traditional box or a brick-and-mortar, Roosie Fitness makes fitness convenient for everyone by bringing the gym to you. My goal is to form relationships and create a fitness community, that welcomes everyone - regardless of body type, age, or fitness level.
2020-2021 took me for a wild ride. I was laid off from my corporate job, a long-term relationship ended, and my dog (Bella), just shy of 14 years old, was laid to rest. I viewed all of this hardship as an opportunity to embark on something outside my comfort zone - to become a nomadic traveler. Staying fit was still important to me, so I committed myself that despite where my travels took me, I would workout each day. I quickly became creative on the road in my RV and found that working out can be done anywhere.
While traveling on the road, I used the terrain around me to do hard things and push my limits. Getting in movement daily was different than going to the box. It included running up mountains, jumping into cold rivers, doing handstand pushups against the RV, or using giant boulders or picnic tables for box jumps. I worked out in remote areas of the country on or next to mountains, beaches, forests, and rivers in sleet, snow, rain, or sunshine. During my journey, I remember telling my nomad friends how cool it would be to have a mobile gym with me. Little did I know this would be my next adventure and reality.
Another impactful and memorable experience was with the van-life community. It reminded me of the power of community. The relationships I developed taught me that we are all connected in some way and that we are not all that different. The nomad community did not care what you did for work or what kind of car you drove, the only thing that mattered was who you were as a person. This was a similar feeling to the type of fitness community that I want to build. A fitness community, regardless of body type or fitness level. In November 2021, I suffered an unexpected setback and suffered a stroke in Joshua Tree, California. In many ways, this stroke put me on the path I desired. While I spent six months doing rehab which was mentally and physically hard for me, I have never been more humbled or truly thankful in my life. I have no answers as to why I suffered a stroke while in good shape; however, in my opinion, I needed it. It gave me time for introspection and my goals became more clear. I believe the stroke was life giving me another opportunity – an opportunity to do what I have always wanted.
The vision of Roosie Fitness brings together what I value, community and fitness without judgment. Roosie Fitness is a community where real people from all walks of life meet up and get a great workout in - whether it is at a park, a parking lot, in front of your office/home, or your neighborhood – I come straight to you. With more than a decade of coaching and training experience, I am committed to creating a safe place where everyone at any fitness level feels welcome. Regardless of your fitness level or location, I will meet you where you are.
